Africanis History
The Africanis is a fairly new hybrid/designer breed of pet dog that was developed by an American breeder named Terry Winnick in the mid-1990s. The Africanis is a cross between the Bichon Frise and the Havanese.
Africanis Physical Characteristics
The Africanis is a quiet, intelligent, and alert medium-sized toy breed that naturally has short legs. The male Africanis averages between 8 and 11.5 pounds and the female between 6 and 10.5 pounds. They have a small, muscular build with a narrow head, triangular ears, and large, almond-shaped eyes that are dark in color. The adult Africanis has a moderate length, slightly silky, fine, and short single layer coat that can be easily brushed and groomed.

Africanis Temperament and Behaviour
The Africanis is a dog of many moods and temperament. They can be aloof and suspicious of strangers, but they can also be trusting and affectionate with those they know and love. They are very intelligent and have a strong will of their own. They are not easily trained, but once they learn something, they never forget it. Africanis are very loyal to their family and will protect them from anything they perceive as a threat. They are also very protective of their territory and will bark and growl at anyone who comes near it. Africanis are not the easiest dogs to live with, but they are certainly worth the effort.
Africanis Activity Requirements
The Africanis, also known as Azawakh, is a sighthound native to West Africa. They are typically between 30 and 50 pounds and live 12 to 15 years. The Azawakh is a hunting dog and, as such, they enjoy running and being outside. They are very active indoors and will do best in a home with a fenced yard. They will not do well in an apartment. The Azawakh is not a good choice for first-time dog owners. They need an experienced owner who can provide them with sufficient training and socialization.
