The adult dogs stand between 23 and 27 inches tall at the shoulders and weigh between 40 and 70 pounds. This breed has a rectangular-shaped head with large, rectangular-shaped eyes, a pointed muzzle, and a loose, pendulous ear. The coat is silky, straight, and slightly wavy.

The Alano Espanol is a fairly rare, but fascinating dog from the Canary Islands of Spain. This ancient breed of hunting and guard dog has a thick, curly coat and can come in either a smooth or wire-coated variety. The Alano Espanol is a high-energy, athletic dog, but they do not require a large amount of vigorous activity. Their preferred form of exercise is long walks or a jog. They are a very intelligent, curious, and devoted breed that loves to spend time outside exploring. While they can be extremely protective of their family, the Alano Espanol is a good family pet and can get along well with children. They are not a dog for beginners, however, so be sure you are able to care for and train this intelligent, strong-willed, and sometimes stubborn dog.
