American English Coonhound History
The American English Coonhound is an American breed of hound descended from the now-extinct Southern Hound, a scent hound developed by settlers in the American South. The American English Coonhound was recognized by the AKC in 2006. American English Coonhounds are a hunter type, usually used for treeing and trailing raccoons. With long, thick, and wiry coats, these dogs are also known as “raccoon hunters”. This coat also protects them from the elements and keeps them warm. These dogs have very powerful noses and are extremely loyal. This makes them great companions.
