Anatolian Pyrenees History
The Anatolian Mountain Dog, also known as the Turkish Van, is a breed of sheepdog from Turkey, believed to have been developed in the Pontic Mountains of Eastern Anatolia, and is speculated by some historians to have been developed from the ancient Molossian sheep-herding dogs. It has been used historically as a guard and watchdog, and more recently as a herder and livestock guardian. The Anatolian has been recognised in several countries, including the United States, United Kingdom and Turkey. It has variously been called a guardian, shepherd, mountain, cattle, and rough terrain.
