The Baseagle is a fairly new hybrid, or designer, breed that was invented in the 1980s. A breeder named Diego Cavanna developed the Baseagle by crossing the Cavalier King with the ancient and rare race of whippets, the Trakehners. The Trakehners are a greyhound-like, single–eye sight hound that are rare and ancient, and that were once used to hunt gazelle and other fast game by Bedouin tribes in North Africa. The Cavalier is a toy spaniel that originated in the 16th century. The Cavaliers were very popular in the Victorian Era, but the popularity of the breed has declined since then. Baseagle Activity Requirements
The Baseagle (pronounced bah-see-ah’-lay) is a cross between a Beagle and a Bassett Hound. They are small, muscular, and energetic, making them an excellent dog for hunting, tracking, and rescue work. While the Baseagle is a medium energy dog, they do require a consistent, well-rounded exercise routine. They are best suited to homes with yards where they can run, but they can also make good apartment companions. A daily walk or jog will help your Baseagle stay happy and healthy. If you are looking for a high-energy companion, the Beasegle is probably not the breed for you. They are happy to have an average amount of exercise and are content with a daily walk around the neighborhood. They do tend to be more rambunctious than some other hunting and working breeds, however.
