Basset Foxhound History
The Basset Fauve de Bretagne, or simply the Basset Fauve, is a canine breed of scent hound. The origin of the name is uncertain. The other names by which it is known to breeders are Basset-Normand, Basset Foxhound, Basset Normand, and Bel Français. It is a medium to large-sized short-coated scent hound. The most notable characteristic of the Basset is a heavily wrinkled face. The roots of this dog lie in crosses between several blood lines through the Middle Ages, reaching their peak in numbers in France in the 1800s. In the mid-1920s, the Paris and Lyon clubs started campaigning for greater recognition of the French Scent Hound, which led to the creation of the “Bélier” (poodle) type.

Basset Foxhound Activity Requirements
Basset Hounds are a laid-back, happy-go-lucky breed of dog that enjoys long, lazy days. While they are not an active or high-energy breed, they do enjoy being outside and going for walks. A daily walk is good for your Basset Hound, but they don’t need much more than that. They are a lovable, quiet, and easygoing type of dog that likes to spend most of their time relaxing. If you are looking for a low-energy pet, a Basset Hound may be a good choice. They don’t need a lot of exercise and are content to hang out with you. However, they do need companionship.
