Basset Retriever History
The Basset Hound is a scenthound that originated in France and was used mainly to herd rabbits. The origin of the name “Basset” is unclear, but it is believed to come from the French word “bas”, which means “low” or “short”. It has also been suggested that the name is a reference to a “bass”, or “beat”, sound that the dog makes as it pursues its prey. The Basset Hound’s ancestors originated in Europe. The FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale), the world kennel club, recognizes two main varieties of the Basset Hound: the rough-coated and the smooth-coated.

Basset Retriever Temperament and Behaviour
The Basset Retriever is an intelligent, affectionate, and loyal dog breed. They are known for their playful and cheerful disposition, and they make great family pets. They are also relatively easy to train and are good with children. However, they can be stubborn and independent at times, and they may need some patience and consistency when it comes to training. Basset Retrievers are active dogs and need plenty of exercise, so they are not well suited for a sedentary lifestyle. They are also known for being strong swimmers and love to play in water.
Basset Retriever Activity Requirements
Bassets are large, laid-back, gentle-natured dogs that were originally bred to help hunters find game. Today, they are a popular pet and show dog. They are known for being sweet-natured, friendly, and loving. Though they are not particularly high-energy, Basset’s still need regular exercise. Bassets are happiest with a long walk or a nice play session. A daily outing is an excellent way to help keep your Basset happy and healthy.
