Bassugg History
The Bassugg is a medium-to-large-sized, Italian spitz-type (Samoyed-like) herding and draft dog. The origins of this little-known hybrid have yet to be established. The Bassug is a medium sized, versatile working and utility farmdog. It is medium to large in size, with males measuring 55-66cm (22-26in) at the withers and 27-44kg (60-97lbs) in weight. The head is medium-sized, with a square muzzle and well-developed lower jaw. The skull is flat between the ears, and tapers into a short, broad, wedge-shaped muzzle. The nose is black. The medium sized, almond-shaped eyes are dark brown, with round pupils. The pointed, erect ears are triangular in shape, with hanging tips. The neck is muscular, and is of medium length. The chest is deep and well sprung, with well laid back shoulders. The tail is set high and carried gaily over the back. The hindquarters are strong and muscular, with rear angulation that places the hocks directly under the body. Feet are catlike, with arched toes and thick, hairy soles.
