Bernefie Temperament and Behaviour
The Bernese Mountain Dog is a gentle and devoted family pet that is protective of their family. They are gentle and patient with children but may be wary of new people. They are generally quiet but do make soft, padded noises. They are trainable, but generally do best when trained by an experienced owner.
Bernefie Activity Requirements
Bernese Mountain Dogs are giant, beautiful, gentle giants. They are sweet, intelligent, and loyal. These dogs are a popular pet choice for families because they are so calm and well-behaved. While Bernese Mountain Dogs are perfectly happy lounging around with their families, they also love to go for walks. They can easily keep up with you on a long walk or jog. While they are not high-energy, they will need at least half an hour of walking each day. A fenced yard is another essential element of a Bernese Mountain Dog’s home. These big, powerful dogs are capable of jumping over high fences and escaping. A fence that is at least six feet high is recommended. While not all Bernese Mountain Dogs will be suited to a high-energy lifestyle, some will be able to participate in activities such as hiking, running, or playing frisbee. However, most are best suited to a quiet, laid-back environment.
