Blue Blood Cane Corso History

The Blue Blood Cane Corso is an Italian Molosser type dog. It is a large, powerful, muscular, square-proportioned, well-muscled, and compactly built, with a rectangular head and a straight topline. The origins of the cane corso are the mastiff-type dogs of the ancient Roman empire, which were used as war dogs and gladiatorial combatants. They were later used for guarding, herding, and fighting bulls and bears. Early European colonists brought with them their mastiff-type guard and hunter dogs to the Americas, where they interbred with the native Indian breeds. Both the American and the American-born descendants of these early “Indian” types are known as American Bulldogs. The distinct American Bulldog and the true “Indian” Mastiff types are today quite separate. The distinctive “bully” look of the American Bulldog comes from its descent from “Bulldogs”, the other type of mastiff once used by English settlers in America.
