The ancestors of the extant chaser-type hounds (Irish Wolfhounds, Spanish Greyhounds, etc.) diverged from the lycaonids evolved over several millennia, eventually giving rise to the modern chien fidèle. The chiens francais remains a popular hunter of boar and roe deer in France, especially
