Ciobanesc Romanesc Carpatin History
The Ciobanesc Romanesc Carpatin is a type of Romanian sheepdog that descends from the livestock guardian dogs that used to live in the mountains of Cioban, near Braşov in Romania. The origin and history of the Ciobanesc Romaneasc Carpatin is well documented and dates back to the XIII century and the reign of the Wallachian prince, Vlad the Impaler. The dogs were used as guard dogs and watchdogs and could often be found with shepherds, guarding their flocks. In the 18th century, after the occupation of Brașov by the Habsburg Empire, the Ciobana shepherd dogs were crossed with French and Serbian mountain dogs, giving rise to the modern Ciobanesc Romanesc Carpatin.
