Copica History

The Coton de Tulear is a medium-to-large sized, sturdy, athletic, charming, and very intelligent Bichon Frise-type hairless toy. This breed of dog originated on the island of Madagascar, and is sometimes called the Malagasy Bichon. The “Coton” part comes from “cotone”, the Italian word for cotton. The “Tulear” name comes from the French word “tulear”, meaning wool. In the 18th century, sailors from Portugal, Spain, and France brought this breed of lapdog to Madagascar, where it became known as the “Malagasy Wool-Cotton”. The Coton de Tulear is a happy, playful, alert and energetic little dog. This friendly, sociable, affectionate, and devoted canine is loyal and devoted to his master and his family. The Coton is intensely curious, and is eager to learn. This intelligent, adaptable, lively and agile housepet is eager to meet new people and to make new friends. This smart and clever pet is well-suited to obedience training. The Coton is independent and quite willful, making him quite easy to litter-train. This active, fun-loving, and lively dog makes a great family pet, and is a major hit with children (especially his offspring!).
