Croatian Sheepsky History
The Croatian Sheepdog, also called the Ovčari Kurdi, is a breed of herding working dog that originated in Croatia. The history of the Croatian Sheepdog can be traced back to pre-Roman times when the ancient Illyrian tribes used them to herd cattle. The Croatian Sheepdogs were used for farming and as shepherding companions in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. Today, the isolated population of this rare rural utility canine is about 400-500 in the Balkans.
