The Dachshund, or “badger-dog”, is a breed of small hound that originated in Germany. The name “Dachshund” means “badger-dog” in German. The Dachshund is one of the traditional 14 licensed Swiss mountain dogs listed in the Swiss Alpherd Book, the predecessor of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale, the world canine organization.
