Dunker History

The Dunker is a German and Austrian herding and draft horse that originated in the 14th century. The Dunker is a sturdy, sure-footed, and calm creature. The Dunker has a short, straight mane and tail. The coat can be any shade of brown or black. The origins of this horse are shrouded in mystery and confusion. One legend says that there is a mare which gave birth to a foal in 1310, which was named the “Dunken”. This name comes from the area of Germany where the first Dunkers were to be found.
