Engachon History
The Engachon is a very unusual-looking English Spitz-type of dog. The Engachon is a very old, very old, term, and derived from Old English. In Old English, “Eng” is “dog” and “chain” or “chón” is “to seize”. So, literally, “Eng chón” means “dog seized”. In 1577, the University of Cambridge owned a dog named “Ic” that had been “engachaun”. “Ic” was actually the puppy of “Icle”, who, in turn, was a puppy of “Icca”. “Icle” and “Icca” were also bred by a university, though which one is currently unknown.
