Engatzu Spaniel History

The Engatzu spaniel (also known as the Catalan Water Dog, or Cany de lletres) was historically used as a gundog for retrieving ducks and upland game birds. The engatzu was bred in the Catalonia region of Spain, where it was traditionally used as a working farm dog and as a water retriever. The engatzu is a very old breed of dog that originated in the Catalonia region of Spain. The engatzu was traditionally bred as a working farm and hunter’s companion. In Catalonia, the engatzu was commonly used as a gundog for retrieving ducks and upland game birds. The engatzu is believed to have been developed from crosses between the Spanish Pointer, the Braque du Bourbonnais, the Griffon Belge, the Bloodhound, the Sloughi, and the Pharaoh Hound.
