Fila Brasileiro History

The Fila Brasileiro (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈfilɐ bɾɐˈziw dʒiɫɐ]), otherwise known as the Brasilian Mastiff, is a working breed of large, muscular, square-built, stocky, and rather short-haired, with a rough coat. It is from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and is also known as the “Brazilian Fighting Dog”. It is the national dog of Brazil, and is recognized by the Brazilian Kennel Club (CBKC), the only national kennel club in Brazil. FBs have a distinctive head shape, which is broader and more elongated than the skull. The muzzle is broad and wedge-shaped. The ears are medium-sized, triangular, and are set moderately high. The eyes are oval-shaped, and the ears are dark in color. The nose is black. The body is slightly longer than tall. The chest is well-developed. The legs are well-boned and muscular. The feet are round, and the dewclaws are usually removed. The tail is set on high and is docked to about two inches long. The coat is short, coarse, and straight. The coat comes in a variety of colors. It is natural for an FBF to shed profusely twice a year, so their coats should be brushed regularly.

Fila Brasileiro Temperament and Behaviour

The Fila Brasileiro is a confident, gentle, and fearless dog. They are protective of their owners, but should not be aggressive towards people or other animals. They are extremely loyal and devoted to their families, but are known to be suspicious of strangers. They are dominant and muscular, which can make training and handling difficult, but they make excellent guard and protection dogs.

Fila Brasileiro Activity Requirements

The Fila Brasileiro is a large, muscular dog that is believed to have descended from Mastiffs. They were originally bred for hunting and guarding, but today they are known for being loyal companions. While they don’t require a lot of exercise and are quite calm, they do require regular exercise. They are best suited to large yards or to fenced-in areas where they can run around. Daily walks are also an excellent way to provide your Fila with physical and mental stimulation. If you think the Fila Brasileiro may be right for you, make sure you can provide them with plenty of exercise and attention. They can be strong-willed and stubborn, so you’ll need to be firm and consistent in order to train them effectively.
