French Buillon History
The French Bullon is a very old breed of sheepdog. In 1861, the Kennel Club of Great Britain accepted the French Bullon into its Stud Book, making it one of the oldest breeds of dog in the registry. Some sources suggest it developed in France as early as 900 AD, when St Bernard monks imported dogs from England to create the first flock guardians. By 1375, large, matted, black-coloured dogs were being used to guard the flocks. These large, shaggy creatures were referred to as “Buillon”, meaning “curly”. The sheepdogs were commonly used as cattle drives and farm workers. A shorter, more compact version was bred as a guard and house pet. In 1870, a French breeder called François-Henri Fauvel developed the now-popular “French Bullon”, which is known for its distinctive round head and short, square body.

French Buillon Temperament and Behaviour
The French Buillon is an alert and protective breed of dog. They are loyal to their human family and are very gentle and affectionate with people. French Bulldogs are playful, but are also content to just relax and lounge around. They are often described as big, lumbering couch potatoes.
French Buillon Activity Requirements
The French Bullon is a tiny, fluffy dog that is known for his playful personality. He loves people and is happiest when he is with his humans. While the French Bullon is not a high-energy dog, he does need to get out and run, play, and explore. A daily walk or jog is the perfect way to get your little Frenchie the exercise and socialization he needs. A dog park is another great option. If you live in an apartment or don’t have a big yard, you do have the option to get an exercise pen for your Frenchie. This will give your dog a safe place to play, but it won’t provide him with the space he will need.
