French West Highlander History

The Frenchie is a toy-sized, short-haired, long-backed, square-proportioned, muscular, herding-type dog. It is also known as the “Frenchie”, “French Bulldog”, “Parisian”, “Pug-dog”, “City Pug”, “Cocker Spaniel”, “Miniature English Bulldog”, “Mini-Bulldog”, “Black and Tan”, “Designer Dog”, and “Chihuahuan”. The origin of the French bulldog is controversial, but the generally accepted view is that the “French Bulldog” descends from the ancient and well-known English Bulldogs. The “English Bull-dog” is believed to have originated in the 1500s from a cross between the now extinct Old English “Staffordshire Bull” and the now extinct White “Bull and Terrier”.

French West Highlander Temperament and Behaviour

The French West Highland White Terrier is a devoted, playful and protective breed of dog. They are generally friendly and good with other dogs and animals, but they can be stubborn and dominant at times. They are smart and eager to learn so they make great candidates for obedience training and do well with all types of activities.

French West Highlander Activity Requirements

The French West Highland White Terrier (or “Westie”) is a small, white terrier with a shaggy coat. While they are adorable, the Westie can also be stubborn and dominant. The Westie is a high-energy dog that needs to be kept busy. They are generally happiest when they are playing, and they enjoy chasing and wrestling. If you are looking for a lapdog, this may not be the breed for you. However, if you can provide your Westie with physical and mental stimulation, they will be a loving and loyal companion. If you are considering a Westie, be sure you are ready for an active, playful dog. This energy needs to be channeled into positive outlets, such as training or playing.
