Glen of Imaal Terrier History
The Glen of Imaal terrier is a medium-sized, close-lying working terrier from County Wicklow, Ireland. The name is taken from the glen (valley) of Imaal, in which this working terrier was bred. The glen of Imaal is within the Wicklow Mountains National Park. In June 2011, the Kennel Club (UK) recognized the Glen of Imaal Terrier as a new ‘Continental’ breed. The Glen of Imaal was recognized by the United Kennel Club on July 1, 2012, and by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale on January 1, 2013.

The Glen of Imaal Terrier is a small, medium-to-large sized dog breed that typically stands between 17 and 25 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between 30 and 40 pounds. They have a wedge-shaped head, oval eyes, and a straight or slightly curved nose. Their coat is short, glossy, and wiry and comes in a variety of color combinations, including red, wheaten, blue, and tri-color. The Glen of Imaal is intelligent, energetic, and fearless.
