Golden Boxer History
The Golden Boxer is a fairly new hybrid or “designer” breed that is the result of the cross between a male Golden Retriever and a female Boxer. The first recorded cross between a German Boxer and an American Golden Retriever was between 1957 and 1959. The intent was to produce a smaller version of both the parent breeds, which would ultimately result in a healthier, happier, and longer-lived pet. The first generation offspring from this breeding was quite small, around the size of a small or miniature Pinscher. As breeders continued to refine the breeding techniques, the puppies became bigger and healthier.
