Goldendoodle History
The Goldendoodle is a cross-breed that is the result of breeding a Golden Retriever and a Standard Poodle. Goldendoodles are a relatively new hybrid, or designer, breed of dog. The first golden doodle (called a “Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle Mix”) was born in 1989, when an Australian breeder crossed a poodle with a golden retriever. The offspring had curly fur similar to that of a poodle, but the nose and ears were that of an adult golden retriever. The first generation Golden Doodles were sterile, but in 1992, Australian breeder Ann Baker was able to successfully mate a female golden doodle with a male poodle. This required a 14-year wait, but the results were well worth it, as the resulting puppies were fertile and had a range of coat colours, including black, brown, cream, apricot, and red.

Goldendoodle Activity Requirements
Goldendoodles are a fairly new mix, with the term being coined in the 1990s. They are created by crossing a golden retriever with a poodle. Most Goldendoodles do very well living in an apartment or a home without a yard. They will enjoy a walk around the block and some time to play with their favorite toys. However, they will still benefit from having a fenced yard where they can play and romp. If you are looking for a dog that does not need a lot of exercise and can adapt to a variety of different lifestyles, the Goldendoodle may be a good choice.
