The Great Wolfhound is a very large, heavy-boned, and muscular long-coated breed of dog. They are known for their endurance, intelligence, and independent spirit. They stand 31 to 33.5 inches (79 to 85 centimeters) at the withers and weigh between 150 and 200 kilograms. They have a heavy head with a flattened skull and a distinctive beard. Their nose is wide and black. They have pricked ears that hang close to the head. Their neck is long and thick with powerful shoulders. They have deep, broad chests and strong hindquarters. Their tail is carried low and is thick and bushy. Their legs are straight, strong and muscular, with round, dark, well-arched feet. Their fur is coarse and the texture is harsh to the touch. It is short and dense around the neck, and longer on the ruff. The undercoat is very thick. The color is white, gray, or brindle, with or without a black mask.
