Havapeke History
The Havapeke is a Turkish shepherd and livestock guardian. The Havapeke is a medium-sized, short-coated, Anatolian shepherd. The Havapeke is a dog that is part of the indigenous fauna of Turkey. The origin of the name “Havape” is debated. One theory asserts the name “Havape” comes from the word “hava”, meaning “guard” in Turkish. Another theory asserts that “hava” is a reference to a “wolf”. The Turkish word “havi” means “dog” or “bear” and “havi” also refers to “wolf”. The name “Hava” or “Vapa” (“Wolf”) is popularly attributed to this breed. It is named after the region where it is found, the Sivas province. In Turkey, some refer to the Hava Pekei simply as a “sheepdog”, the “Turkoman Hound”, or the “Turkish Wolfhound”. In Iran it is also known as the “Shepherd Dog”.

Havapeke Activity Requirements
The Havapoo is a cross between a Havanese and a Poodle. They are a small, compact, and portable dog, making them a popular choice for families and apartment dwellers. While their medium energy level means they can adapt to almost any environment, they do require regular walks or jogs. A short, but brisk, walk every day will keep your Havapoo fit and healthy. A slow walk around the neighborhood or time in the backyard playing with their favorite toys will be enough to meet most of your Havapoo’s physical needs. While they may be adaptable, they will benefit from some outdoor time and social interaction.
