Italian Greagle History

The Italian Greyhound or Italian Sighthound is a breed of small sighthound from Southern Europe. It is an ancient and aristocratic-looking coursing and racing hound, which has been depicted in art since classical antiquity. It is recorded that the dog was depicted on a coin from Rome dating to 270 BC. The origins of the breed are uncertain, but it is known to have originated in Italy and to have been present during Roman times. The Romans called it the Galgo, a name which survived into medieval times, when it was also known as “gypsy dog”, “little gypsy”, and “little thief”.
