Italian Mastweiler History
The Mastino Italiano is a medium-sized, muscular, working breed of dog, used chiefly as a farm and livestock guardian. It is recognized as a cattle herding and sheep herding guard and as a versatile tagalong to herd and guard farm animals, including horses and donkeys. The mastiff’s coat colors include fawn, brindle, gray (blue), white, black, red and tan. The origin of the mastiff is an old one, stretching back to antiquity. The bull-like Molosser, the ancestor of the present-day Rottweiler, was used by the Phoenicians for guarding their ships. The Carthaginians and Romans also undoubtedly acquired both their war dogs and their personal bodyguard from the group of dogs known collectively as the Molosser, which included the mastiff.

Italian Mastweiler Activity Requirements
The Italian Mastiff is a large, muscular and powerful dog that is built for work. They are loyal, intelligent, and protective. While Italian Mastiffs are not high-energy, they do require regular exercise. They do well in homes with large yards where they can run around and burn off some of their energy. They are also great with older kids who can help them burn some of their excess energy. If you are looking for a large, strong, and intelligent companion, an Italian Mastiff might be right for you. This proud, big-hearted dog makes a wonderful guard dog and companion. If your home or yard is on the larger size, this athletic canine will be more than happy to join you for a game of fetch or a long walk.
