King Wheaten History
The King Wheatens, or “King Dogs”, are a type of Irish Terrier. They are sometimes called the Kerry Blue Terrier, after the blue-and-tan coat color of the males, though the Blue is not a true Kennel Club color. The AKC recognizes three variations of the King, the Traditional, the Continental, and the Miniature.

King Wheaten Physical Characteristics
The King Wheaten is a small, medium-size breed of terrier that tends to stand between 10 and 15 inches in height at the withers and weigh between 25 and 35 pounds. They have a thick, wheat-colored double coat that hangs down over their back and is longer on their front legs and under their tail. They have a narrow head with a pointed muzzle and a scissor bite. Their round, dark brown eyes often have a reddish tint. They are a hardy breed that tends to be playful, alert, and eager.

The King Wheaten is an energetic, playful, and sociable breed. They love being around people, and are very protective of their owners. They are very intelligent and easy to train. They are calm, yet determined, and make good watchdogs.
King Wheaten Activity Requirements
The King Wheaten is a medium-sized, shaggy-coated breed of dog. They are intelligent, friendly, and loyal. While they don’t need a huge amount of exercise, they do require regular walks and games of fetch. They are also good swimmers, so you may be able to incorporate some swimming into your routine. Due to their long and shaggy coats, King Wheatens do have a high grooming maintenance requirement. Daily brushing and combing are necessary to keep their coats healthy.
