Kokoni History
The Kokoni is a breed of small, short-haired, hypoallergenic dogs originally developed in the 1970s by Mrs. Masako Ogata of Japan for use in her animal assisted therapy. The Kokonis coat is golden-red in color, with white markings on the underside of the tail and on the legs and chest, and a distinctive cream-white marking on the forehead. The FCI recognized the Kokoni in 2006. The breed is still quite rare.
Kokoni Physical Characteristics
The Kokoni is a medium-to-large sized, long-haired, primitive, working, herding, guard and companion breed of domestic dogs from North America. It is descended from the coureurs de bois and fur traders who crossed various breeds of domesticated animals with native Native American peoples for the purpose of hunting. The breed is mainly used for their tenacity and intelligence as working dogs.

Kokoni Temperament and Behaviour
The Kokoni is a highly intelligent, brave, and protective breed of dog. They are natural guardians of their family and property, and will protect their loved ones with their life. They are protective of their territory and can be very territorial and aggressive with unfamiliar people. They are very intelligent and are quick to learn new commands, though they can be difficult to train due to their independent nature.
Kokoni Activity Requirements
The Kokoni, also known as the Highland Cattle Dog, is a large, hard-working dog that was once used to control cattle and sheep. While they still perform those duties today, they can also make wonderful pets. While it is important to provide plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, the Kokoni does not need the same type of vigorous activity as other herding breeds. They require moderate amounts of exercise and can be happy in a home with a fenced yard. The Kokoni is muscular and athletic, and they have a naturally strong instinct to herd animals. This means that they need a job to keep them busy. They need to be involved in some kind of work or sport, preferably from a young age. The Kokoni is a very friendly, loyal, and intelligent dog. If you are prepared to provide your pet with plenty of attention and an active lifestyle, the Kokoni is a perfect choice.
