Kuvasz History
The Kuvasz is a Hungarian herding and livestock guardian dog. The female is known as the Komondor and the male is called the Kovász. The Kuvasz is an ancient, primitive, rustic, and fiercely independent working shepherd. The male is often referred to as the “King of the Castle” because of how protective he is of the herd he watches. The kuvasz is very intelligent and learns very quickly. The kuvasz was originally bred by a tribe in Hungary called the Magyar, who lived there from the 10th century onwards. This original stock has vanished, but modern breeders have developed the kuvasz from several different crosses, including German Shepherds and Anatolian Shepherds.

Kuvasz Activity Requirements
Kuvasz, also known as Hungarian Sheepdogs, are medium- to large-sized, muscular, and agile. They are a working dog and were originally bred for guarding and herding. This intelligent, independent, and steadfast breed of dog requires a great deal of exercise and mental stimulation. A daily workout will be a must, and this can include activities such as running, hiking, and retrieving. A fenced yard is ideal, as Kuvasz can be escape artists. They are protective and territorial, so a securely fenced-in area will keep them safe and allow them to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.
