La Pom History
The La Pom is a small, distinctive, and rare French herding and draft working breed of cattledog. The La Pompe is the French name for the drover or shepherd of the Pyrenees. The origin of the name is unclear, but it may be derived from à pomper (to blow), referring to the sound made by a horn. This majestic and ancient mountain guardian was, by extension, applied to the herdsmen who, for centuries, used these animals to guard their flocks. The word “pom” is a diminutive of “pompier”, which means “herdsman” in several Romance languages. The “Pôle des Pyrénées” is a government agency that administers breeding and registration of the La Pompe.

La Pom Temperament and Behaviour
The La Pom is a gentle, loving, and loyal breed of dog. They are typically outgoing and friendly, and are known to make excellent companions. They do not need much activity, and prefer to lay around the house and relax. However, they will play and exercise outdoors occasionally. They are friendly and get along well with children, but may be aggressive with other dogs.
La Pom Activity Requirements
La Poms are a herding dog that was bred for function rather than form. They are medium-sized, short-haired, and muscular. Males are usually between 20 and 25 pounds, while females usually weigh between 18 and 22 pounds. Although they are not extremely high-energy, they do require some regular exercise. La Poms tend to prefer having jobs, so they do best with owners who have time to keep them occupied. If left to their own devices, they may become bored and destructive. A daily walk or a few games of fetch are great ways to keep your La Pom happy and healthy. This is an extremely intelligent and active breed that loves to be outside. They also love having a job to do.
