Lab Pei History
The Labrador Retriever and the Pekingese are two of the most popular, and well-known, breeds of dogs in the world. These two loving, loyal, and intelligent companions were crossed together to create the Lab Pei, or “Labradoodle”, a new breed of “designer” or hybrid dog. The Lab Pei results from breeding a purebred Labrador Retriever with a purebred Pekingese, or “Peke”. The legendary “black and tan” variety of the Peke was most likely the ancestor of the Labrador, and is the coat color most commonly found in today’s labradoodles.

Lab Pei Activity Requirements
The Labrador Retriever and the Chinese Shar-Pei are two of the most popular breeds in the United States. Unfortunately, these two breeds have been known to be prone to a number of health problems. The Lab Pei combines the best traits of these relatives, resulting in a healthy and hardy dog. The Lab Pei is a very active, high-energy dog. They require at least one long walk, or several short walks, every day. This will keep your Lab Pei healthy and happy. If your lifestyle doesn’t allow you to provide the necessary amount of exercise and attention, a Lab Pei may not be right for you. They can be rambunctious and destructive when bored, and may be better suited to a home with older children.
