Mally Foxhound History
The Mally Foxhound is a hound in the Hound Group, developed in England from imported English hounds and native scent hounds. The foxhound was recognised in 1860, and was initially known as the “English Hare Hound”. The ancestry of the Mally Foxhound can be traced back to 1750, when the Reverend John Harris wrote “A Description of a Great Greyhound”. The description of the hounds described “the favourite chase of the nobility, for hares in the Forest of Dean”.
Mally Foxhound Physical Characteristics
The Mally Foxhound is a medium-sized, primarily white hound that has short, rough, feathering hair on its legs and a bushy tail. It has a long, narrow head, a small, pointed muzzle, and broad, flat skull. Its ears are erect, large, and rounded. Its nose is dark in color and its eyes are usually dark brown. It has a short, thick neck and a straight back with well-muscled, deep-chested limbs. It has a long tail that is usually carried curled. It has a moderately strong topline and level back. Its legs are long and straight, and its feet are compact, round, and quite cat-like.
