They have a thick, wiry, curly, and silky-muzzle. The body is compact and stocky. The tail is docked. The feet are round and webbed. They stand from 8 to 12 inches tall at the shoulders and weigh between 3 and 6 pounds. They be white, cream, apricot, or gold in color.
