Mini English Cocker History

The Miniature English Cocker Spaniel is a toy spaniel that originated in the United Kingdom. The Mini or Teacup Spaniel is the result of breeding small standard-sized spaniels with tiny toy Spaniels and mixes. The Miniature English Cocker is descended from the Field Spaniel and the Old English Cocker. These early spaniels were bred for hunting woodcock and other upland game. The Field Spaniel was larger than the classic cocker and was also heavier and slightly longer. The Old English Cocker was smaller and shorter. The Kennel Club recognised the Miniature English Cocker in 1934. The breed was recognised by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1964.

Mini English Cocker Temperament and Behaviour

The Mini English Cocker Spaniel is an active, friendly and devoted companion. They are smart and eager to learn, and will even learn new tricks. They love to play and get along well with children and other pets. This breed can be stubborn at times, so it is a good idea to start early with training and socialization. They enjoy being around the family and do well in homes where someone is home most of the day.

Mini English Cocker Activity Requirements

Mini English Cocker Spaniels are small, muscular, and energetic. A daily walk or jog is a must for this high-energy dog, but they will also enjoy playing with their owners or other dogs. A Mini English Cocker Spaniel should not be expected to stay home alone for long periods of time. They can become destructive or anxious if left alone for too long. If you are looking for a small, friendly companion, a Mini English Cocker may be right for you. Their small size and high energy make them best suited to homes with yards or parks where they can run around.
