Mountain Feist History
The Mountain Feist is a working and herding breed from the mountainous regions of Switzerland. The Mountain Feist is also known as the Schwyzerspitz, and it is believed to be a descendent of the German Pinzgauer. The Swiss Kennel Club recognized the Mountain Feist as a distinct breed of dog in 1992. The ancestors of the Mountain Feist were perhaps the same dogs that were brought to Switzerland by the Roman legions. The Romans settled in Switzerland, and they brought with them their war dogs and hunting hounds, including the Greyhound, the already-domesticated Wolfhound, and the now-extinct Canis Pugnax. The Romans also brought with them the now-extinct Molossus, which was probably a dog of closely-related stock to the modern German Shepherd.
