Mudhol Hound History
The Mudhol Hound is a breed of hunting hound that is indigenous to the state of Karnataka, India. The Mudhol Hound is a medium-sized, scent hounds with erect ears, a long tail, and a distinctive coat color. The distinctive coat of the Mudhol Hound allows it to be easily distinguished from other Indian scent hounds. The origin of the name “Mudhol” is unclear, but it probably originates from the Kannada language.
Mudhol Hound Physical Characteristics
The Mudhol Hound is a medium-to-large sized hound dog that typically stands between 21 and 25 inches at the withers and weighs between 60 and 75kg. The males have a more muscular and heavier build than the females. They have a straight, slightly arched back and strong, sturdy limbs. Their size allows them to move silently and swiftly over rugged terrain. Their short, fine, smooth, glossy and smooth textured double coat is any color as long as it is predominantly dark (black, chestnut, blue, fawn). They have large, erect ears. Their nose is black and they are usually have a pendulous hanging lower lip. They have a bushy beard, mustache and eyebrows. Their tail is docked to a length of about 6 inches. They have keen, piercing and dark brown eyes. Their long and splayed front legs allow them to quickly flush out game.
