New Guinea Singing Dog History

The New Guinea Singing Dog, also known as Papuan Singing Dogs or Asmat Singing Dogs, is a species of singing, howling, and barking domesticated canid native to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. The dogs are descended from wild canids brought by humans from Southeast Asia, probably around 9,000 years ago. The male New Guinea Singing Dog is polygynous, and the female is either monogamous or polyandrous. The New Guinea Singing Dog is hunted by aboriginal people, who use their meat, skin, and bones for their tools and weapons. The dogs are also used in warfare, and are eaten as bushmeat by non-hunting populations.
