Polish Lowland Sheepdog History

The Polish Lowland Sheepdog, or Polski Owczarek Nizinnyj, is a working sheepdog from Poland. It is closely related to the Komondor, Maremma, and Italian Sheepdogs. The history of the Polski Owczarek Nizinnyj is closely tied to that of the Karakul sheep, a primitive, semi-wild mountain sheep. The Karakul is hardy, resistant to disease and parasites, and able to graze and survive on very poor grazing land. For centuries, the Polski Owczarek Nizinnyj has been employed to herd and guard the Karakul. The dogs were bred to remain with the herd, and to work closely with their shepherds. The Polish Lowland Sheepdog was used as a farm dog, a guardian, and a shepherd. They were also bred to be companions to people.

Polish Lowland Sheepdog Activity Requirements

Meanwhile, the Polish Lowland Sheepdog is a herding dog that originated in Poland. They were originally used to herd sheep. Today, they are popular as guard dogs and as companions. While they are not as high-energy as some other breeds, Polish Lowland Sheepdogs do require regular exercise. They are best suited to homes with yards where they can run around. A daily walk or jog, as well as access to a fenced yard, will help your Polish Lowland Sheepdog stay happy and healthy. If you are looking for a jogging companion, a sheepdog might not be the best choice. While they are happy to tag along, they do not tend to keep up on long runs. However, if you are looking for a loyal pet who will be content to accompany you on short walks, a Polish Lowland Sheepdog might be a good choice.
