Pugalier History
The Pugalier is a historical hound variety, or type, of scent hounds similar to the modern French Hound. The ancestry of the Pugalier is unclear, but is believed to be a combination of the Celtic dogs brought by Roman settlers and the German Hound. The Pugalier was used primarily to hunt hare and deer, and was also used as a guard and for bear-hunting. The Latin word “puga” means “hound”. The term “Pug” was sometimes used to refer to both the pug and its larger relative, the Bulldog. The origin of the English term “Pug” is unknown, but it is believed to come from the French word “pougue”, meaning “to howl”.

Pugalier Temperament and Behaviour
The Pugalier is an outgoing, happy, and friendly dog that loves to cuddle and spend time with their families. They are highly energetic and have high endurance, making them ideal candidates for hiking, jogging, and other outdoor activities. They need plenty of exercise every day and may be destructive when bored. Pugaliers are also very protective of their families and make great guard dogs.
Pugalier Activity Requirements
The Pugalier is a cross between a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, hence the name. This fluffy, curly-haired dog is the smallest of the designer breeds. The small size of the Pugalier is offset by the fact that they are very active. These little pups like nothing more than the chance to play and run. They are well-suited to living in small apartments and condos. While your Pugalier may be happy with just a long walk, they also love to play. Consider getting your pup a toy for when they are home alone to keep them occupied.
