Rhodesian Ridgeback History
The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a Southern African breed of domestic dog. The ridged coat is distinctive, being long, straight, and very tight to the dog’s body. The skin is thin, especially on the neck and shoulders. The African wild dogs from which the Ridgebacks were developed were known to be protective and courageous, and thus their temperament today is still quite bullish. They are known for their bravery and tenacity, and for the ability to smell and follow scents. They are particularly known for their hunting abilities, and for their loyalty to their owners. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is considered to be one of the oldest of the African hunting dogs, and is thought to have descended from the Dingo.
