Running Walker Foxhound History

The Running Walker Foxhound is a very old English scent hound that was recognized by the British Kennel Club in 1886. The Running Walker is descended from the much older older Whippet, Greyhound, and Deerhound bloodlines. The Running Walker was historically used as a fox hunter, but it was later bred to sighthounds such as the Greyhound, creating a modern Sight Hound type. The Running Walker was a popular and common sight hound in England for hundreds of years, but it was almost unknown outside that country until the early 1800s. The popularity of the Whippet, which was very similar to the running walker, eventually overshadowed that of the more fragile and more aristocratic “Running Walker”, and eventually led to the extinction of the more primitive, heavier-boned, and slower-gaited “Running Walker”. The “Running Walker” would eventually be completely replaced by the Whippet, creating the modern “English” or “Standard” Whippet. The “Rambling” or “Rambling-Walker” was recognized by The Kennel Club in 1886 as an official variety.

Running Walker Foxhound Activity Requirements

Running Walker Foxhounds are a relatively new breed of dog. They are a cross between the American Foxhound and the Standard Poodle. This unique mix results in an athletic, smart, and sociable dog. While Running Walker Foxhounds are intelligent, independent, and fun-loving, they do require a fair amount of exercise and mental stimulation. They need a medium to large fenced-in yard where they can run around and stretch their legs. They will also need a daily walk or jog. These dogs are smart enough to be easily trained in basic commands and agility exercises. If you are looking for a companion who will keep you on your toes, a Running Walker Foxhound may be your perfect match. These dogs are friendly and outgoing, but they will let you know when they want something.
