Saint Bernewfie History
The Saint Bernewfie is a breed of small terrier developed in the 1800s by crossing the King Charles Spaniel with the Maltese. What’s in a name? The Saint Bernewfie, a “Saint” because it is named after a French town, and “bernie,” because, well, it was named after a dog, is a cross between a King Charles Spaniel and a Maltese. In 2015, the AKC recognized the Breed Standard, and the Saint Bernewfie Club of America was founded in 2016. The Saint Bernewfie is an affectionate, sociable, and intelligent little dog with a wonderful temperament. The downside is that its small size means that it lacks the strength to stray far from home.

Saint Bernewfie Temperament and Behaviour
The Saint Bernewfie is an energetic, loving, and protective breed of dog. They are highly intelligent, extremely attentive, and curious, which can sometimes lead to them being high-strung and nervous. They can be very stubborn, which can make them difficult to train. They require regular exercise and mental stimulation, and to keep them calm, they need to be around their family members as much as possible.
Saint Bernewfie Activity Requirements
Saint Bernewfies are a herding dog that originated in Wales. They are large, strong, and agile, and today they are a popular show and work dog. Saint Bernewfies do require regular exercise, both physical and mental. They are intelligent, high-energy, and active, and they do best when they are given a job to do. While they can be excellent companions, it is not uncommon for them to be protective and territorial. This is a high-energy, active breed that will do best in homes with owners who can provide plenty of opportunities for exercise. If you have another dog (or don’t mind having two dogs), this is a good choice for an active family or for someone who is physically fit.
