Shiba Corgi History

The Shiba Inu and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi were two of the most popular Japanese Spitz varieties in Japan. The Shiba Inu is a descendant of the Kai Ken (Japanese Blackdog), which was a popular hunting and watchdog. The Shiba Inu was historically used to hunt and guard properties. The Akita Inu and the Kishu Inu were two other varieties of the Japanese Spitz. The origin of the modern-day cardigan Welsh corgi is uncertain. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a herding and draft working dog, and has been used for centuries to herd cattle and sheep. The Kennel Club of England recognized the Cardigan Welsh Corgi in 1934. The shiba inu and the corgi were crossed in Japan, and the offspring were bred together to create the shiba corgi. The shiba inu and the shiba inus were crossed with the Pembroke Welsh Corgi to create the pembroke welsh shiba inu.

Shiba Corgi Temperament and Behaviour

The Shiba Corgi is an energetic, playful, curious, and mischievous breed that enjoys spending time with their family. They love the company of people and are just as happy being an ‘only child’ as an ‘only pet’. They are extremely loyal to their owners and very protective of them. They tend to be suspicious of strangers, but will still welcome new people into their home with a friendly disposition.

Shiba Corgi Activity Requirements

The Shiba Corgi is a Japanese hybrid that is a cross between a Shiba Inu and a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. This is a fairly rare cross, and there are not many breeders in the USA. When properly socialized, these dogs are good with children and other dogs, and they make excellent companions. A daily walk or short run is the best way to make sure your Shiba Corgi stays healthy. This small to medium-sized dog is energetic and intelligent, so they will always enjoy a game of fetch or a short jog. This is a relatively new hybrid, so there are not as many details available as with purebreds. Be sure to do your research and talk to a breeder about selecting the right puppy for you and your family.
