Shibos

Dog Breed Profile

Shibos History

The Shiba Inu is a breed of small, compact, and stocky spitz-type Japanese dog. The name Shiba Inu means “brushwood lapdog” in Japanese. The Shiba Inu was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1991. The Shiba Inu comes in three varieties; the komainu, the rakusui and the chu-shu. The komainu is black with tan markings, the rakusui is red with cream or gold colored markings, and the chu-shu is silver colored with red highlights. The Shiba Inu- Inu is descended from the Sennen Shikoku. The Sennen Inu- Inu was crossed with the smaller Nihon Ken and, over time, two types of dog emerged, the shiba and the inu, although both were considered the same species. The shiba is sturdier and larger than the inu, and is favored for guarding and pulling sleds and carts. The inu is more compact and is favored as a companion and hunter. The shiba and inu were listed as separate breeds until 1959, when they were combined into the shiba inu.

Shibos Temperament and Behaviour

The Shibo is an energetic, playful, and fun-loving breed of dog that is always ready for an adventure. They are highly intelligent and can be trained to perform tricks, and are also easy to train to do basic commands. They are protective of their family and will bark to alert them of any potential danger, but they rarely bite.

Shibos Activity Requirements

Shibos are a fairly new breed of dog that was developed in Japan. They are small, sleek, and (as the name suggests) look like Shiba Inus. These dogs are intelligent and friendly, although they can be a little stubborn at times. Shibos are well suited to apartment living, as they are not overly high-energy. They do require a moderate amount of exercise and will benefit from a daily walk or jog. These dogs are well-suited to families who live in urban or suburban areas.
