Siberian Indian Dog History

The Siberian Indian Dogs are a group of ancient domesticated spitz-type dogs of Native American origin, probably derived from northern or central Asia and originally used as sled-pulling, hunting, and guard dogs. The dogs are thought to have been brought to North America between 2000 and 8000 years ago by early hunters who crossed the Bering Strait land bridge from Asia to Alaska. The tribes who settled in the Great Plains region used the dogs in a wide variety of roles, including as sled-pulling, hunting, and guard dogs. The Dogo Argentino is closely related, and probably descended from, the South American Xoloitzcuintli. They are similar in appearance, but have slightly different temperaments and grooming requirements.
