Siberian Shiba History
The Shiba Inu is a breed of small to medium-sized spitz-type working dog, originating in Japan. The Shiba Inu was originally developed to be a rat hunter and guard of the feudal lord’s home. The Shiba Inu is an intelligent, alert and courageous watchdog. The breed is compact, sturdy and well-balanced. The coat is short and straight, and comes in whatever colour the breeder wishes. The most well known colours are red, black, tan, white, cream, blue, and sesame. The shiba inu is a powerful, tough, agile, and energetic hunting hound, which has been used for coursing and for dispatching a wide variety of rodents. The shiba inu was designated as a natural monument of Japan in 1931.

The Siberian Shiba is a small, medium-to-large sized dog that typically stands between 18 and 23 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between 35 and 50 pounds. They have a smooth, flat, thick, double coat that is white, red, gray, or any of these colors. They have a round head, strong jaws, and a square muzzle. The eyes of the Siberian Shiba are almond-shaped and dark brown in color. They have arched eyebrows and a bushy tail. The ears of the Siberian Shiba are erect and triangular. Their nose is black and they have a double dewclaw on the hind legs. They are alert, intelligent, and stubborn dogs that do well in agility events. They are energetic and make good watchdogs.
