Smalandsstovare History

The Smaland Stovär is a Swedish spitz-type of working gundog that was originally developed to work in the forests and swamps of Sweden. It was developed in the mid-18th century and is often referred to as the Swedish counterpart to the American and English Foxhound. The Smaland Stovär is particularly suited to duck and goose hunting, as well as general upland game hunting. It has a long, narrow head, a narrow muzzle and a well-feathered tail. The coat is harsh, dense and water-resistant, and the dog is 50 to 60 cm tall at the withers.
