Soft Coated Golden History
The Soft-Coated Wheaton Terrier or American Wheaton Terrier is a breed of small terrier that originated in the mid-19th century. The Soft-Coated Wheaton Terrier is a descendant of the Old English Black and Tan Terrier. The ancestors of the Soft-Coated Wheaton Terrier were crossed with calls, the dachshund, and hounds to create the original “Smooth Fox Terrier”. The “Smooth Fox Terrier” was later crossed with small spaniel-type dogs, creating the Smooth “Scottie”. The descendants of the “Smooth” “Scottie” are now known as “Westminster”, “Westminister” or “White” “Terriers”. The “Westminster” “Terrier” was popular among show and fancier breeders, but the majority of “Westminster” “Terriers” were kept as family pets. The “Westminster” “Terrier” was imported from Scotland in the mid-19th century.

Soft Coated Golden Activity Requirements
The Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier, or “Soft-Coated Wheatie,” is a medium-sized terrier who is known for his gentle, easygoing personality. While not a high-energy dog, he does need regular exercise. A daily walk or run around the yard is the best way to meet your Soft Coated Wheatie’s physical needs. He enjoys playing outside, so factor in regular play sessions as well. If you are looking for a companion who will spend most of his days lounging around, the Soft Coated Wheatie may not be the best match for you. However, if you are looking for an affectionate, loyal dog who is happy to accompany you on adventures, you will be perfectly suited.
